Instead of swaying heavily off topic in the New Year's thread, it seemed like a fun idea to start a new topic and inquire about your fan maren.

Kinda sorta, my "fan"maren were cooked up for my story, so I don't take them very seriously.
Except Tier. Tier's exempt because (s)he's my muse and currently appears in my mind as a Lumina/Maren hybrid.

But my favorite fanmaren are probably my TreeMaren, Willow, and the shadow, Shara.

Willow is a sort of weeping willow, hence the name. Very feminine while retaining that classic Maren genderlessness. She speaks through breeze-like sighs and moans. You can always tell what mood she's in, as she'll have pleasant breezey sounds for good moods, and more violent, stormy moans when she's angry or upset.
Willow's also a pacifist. Wizeman stationed her in Mystic Forest to blend in with the non sentient trees and spy (and maybe tangle hapless dreamers in her branch-like hands and hair)

Shara is less original, she kind of resembles the Shadow Demon from D&D XD
She's tiny as Nightmaren go, with a ghost type tail in place of legs, and claw-like fingers.
She has Reala type horns, but thinner and sharper in appearance.
Shara detests light, being a shadow, and prefers to be alone. She'll find a crevice or corner to hide in if anyone bothers her.
And she speaks in a breathy, hissing tone. Almost always ending in ". . ."

Although both are loyal to Wizeman, neither is "evil."

OH dear god, yes I have several! Prepare for a long post! First off:

Nightbreeze. She was one of my first nightmaren. I stopped using her because she looked like a recolor and was a big mary sue.

Umbra (meaning shadow). Nicked named koolaid for no reason, he is my shadow ninja nightmaren. He doesn't fly but rather runs fast, only in shadows can he go super fast. He only lives to do his job (Gathering ideya). He doesn't really care who he serves, as long as he has something to do.

Virga (meaning stripped). He is really really tall! Like his brother and Umbra he cannot fly. But he can mimic any sound. ANY! Thats how he catches dreamers off guard. He does still work under Wizeman, but is really lazy about it. He doesn't really care though. His twin is Stia, and he is always trying to keep him outta trouble. He has 'x's around his eyes and mouth unlike his twin (which I'll get more on about).

Stia (comes from the latin word Molestia, meaning annoyance) Like his name he. is. so. annoying! Infact that might be the only thing he lives for! Like his borther, he only has lines on his face. Stia has a habit of trying to get close to dreamers and talk with them, but Virga keeps him away. He really has no idea about whats going on around him. Thus with that and the way he acts, leads eveyone to believe he is in fact insane.

Fexti (comes form the latin word Artifex, or painting) Fexti is an artist. He goes is always painting on anything he can find with his giant brush, which looks funny considering he's like 2 feet tall. He doesn't really do anything else, or talk for that matter. When he does talk it sounds like gibberish mixed with crazy frog and a star wars jawah (or however you spell it).

iNKY, lives in one of Fexti's paintbottel. Doesnt really do much, but can translate for Fexti. iNKY provides ink and paint for Fexti's brush. OTher then that he has a mask for a face and ink for a body.

That's really all of them.

What a wonderful list of marens. You guys all have such wonderful ideas. I can't reply to everyone though. However I will say this, I once considered drawing Tier for you SiLK....but his outfit was way too tedious for the time being. D8

As for my maren, she is still in development. I haven't even fully decided on her name yet. I am thinking about Keket (Eyptian: Mythical Goddess of Darkness) or Mert (Egyptian: lover of silence). Mert would work better because all she wants is peace and quite. She has a hat with eyes and a mouth that talks all the time. This bothers her to no end. However Mert is a bit strange...heck any Egyptian name is pretty strange for a maren. I wonder if its a good idea.

Her looks are initially based off Final Fantesy Black mages, but she has gone through a lot of changes. In fact, you can see the outline of her face and such. I don't want her to look like a rip off from FF and I don't want her to look too much like NiGHTS either. Because of this, she is going to look really spooky and strange looking compared to most marens. Her base colors are purple and black. (There are my favorite colors.) I will be sure to show you guys a picture of her whenever I get her drawin.

Oh, and did I mention her hat has a giant shadowy hand extending from it. Its also a witch like hat as well. She also has large shodowy clawed hands, purple glowing eyes, and I am debating giving her legs or not.

Don't worry about drawing Tier, Yami. EVERYONE draws Tier, and she's not even an actual fanmaren.

when making a Maren, it's best not to think about it too much. The majority of mine just formed depending on what I needed for the story, and I pulled random names/words out of thin air and changed the spelling or pronunciation to make them a little more exotic.
Egyptian names is a cool idea.

Sounds cool, be sure to put up some pictures in the Art section when you can

Ohh, everyone of these 'maren sound awesome I'd love to see pics of them all :3 I'll go on an art hunt later XD

Myself, at one point I had -loads- of 'maren. Memorable ones were-
Cardius, who was a pale green colour covered in black thorns, and had a massive sword through his chest.
Mortis, who was a pale purple colour and never blinked. I think she had some random ability to petrify people or something.
Kizu, who had never healing wounds and looked like some sort of blue zombie with blades in her hair.
Utsukushii, who was just so random and freaky I never drew him the same way twice, except for the fact he had four eyes and two mouths. His last form before he vanished was a massive dragon.

But none of them really had any effect on anything, they just didn't have that... thing... that my first 'maren had.

TearDrop (the little 'maren you see on my avatar there) was my first fanmaren, and she's stuck with me for years. I'm not sure why, but very few of my characters have that "I'm staying" stubborness about them :p

Tear's got a quirky playfulness about her, but if she's serious about something you'll know it. The rings she wears are removable, and she throws them boomerang-style to trap targets, but they're not very powerful. (I drew one too many on the top parts of her legs in that avvie, eheh.)

Her bright white outfit and cheerful smile can often be disarming, since you'd hardly expect a nightmare to look so doomed cute XD She's very loyal, and will defend her home and her fellow Nightmaren if needed. However, she does admire NiGHTS' sheer cockiness and his audacity in siding with Nightopia, though she does sometimes wonder at just why he'd do such a thing.

She likes to sing occasionally, but tends to keep quiet when other 'maren are around. Gets embarrassed if she's heard XD

Why is she called 'TearDrop' when she's such a bubbly character? Lol, it's simply because of her pale colouring, and the small diamonds just under her eyes XD

I also have a rat-maren named Mane. Not figured out much about him yet, but I'm sure I will eventually XD

My fan-maren, EVENiNG. It's outside, just standing, minding it's own buisseness. Done in paint. It's a NiGHTS look-a-like. It's neither good or evil, and switches sides. Untrust worthy, huh? EVENiNG was created, but was a failed proto type of NiGHTS. It's failed becuase it never listened to Wizeman, and did what ever it felt like. for example, it was supposed to steal a dreamers Blue Ideya, but when it stole it, it took it for itself, and played with the Pians...then ate one.... XD. Geuss that explains the Blue Ideya stuck on it's chest, huh? It's called EVENiNG as a pun to NiGHTS, because evening happens befor night, so yeah,lol. NiGHTS isn't so sure about EVENiNG. Reala is trying to capture EVENiNG, too, but EVENiNG likes to trick him to get away, or in most cases, fight. Reala hasn't seen her for years, and now belives she's loooong gone. EVENiNG has a Scorpio's kind of temper, and loves anything that's a jewel, or looks like one. (perfredly, Ideya's) EVENiNG uses trickery from time to time, and messes around with NiGHTS causing mischive. Time of creation is unknown, though.

EVENiNG usual gets in trouble in some cases, and needs a little "rescueing". it also likes to evedrop on anything that would serve her some use. (yes, EVENiNG is genderless, but I like calling it a her from time to time.) It'll also evedrop, or spy on anything or anyone new, just to make sure that it won't get in her way, or is loking for her. She hates dreamers, becuase they confuse her with NiGHTS and get in her way. She has the abbility to use the Blue Ideya on her Chest to travle thru time and teleport. all she has to do is place her hand on her over the it, close her eyes, and think of the time,era and place . She was chased by Wizeman and Reala, but is now considered dead, becuase Wizeman got no word of her. She's still alive and continues to hide from them. NiGHTS, Jackle, and few dreamers are the only ones who know of her being in igsistence. Jackle would tell on EVENiNG if she doesn't do him some "favors" which she hates, but has no choice. Jackle has "a way of contacting EVENiNG". NiGHTS hates the fact that EVENiNG "flirts" and gets in his way. NiGHTS doesn't care much about her unless she's in danger. EVENiNG could careless about others, and likes to trick NiGHTS in order to get her way, what she wants or get away from anything, including being seen by Reala or Wizeman, or any minion. EVENiNG will NOT be featured in NiGHTS into Poems (Hard to write becuase it's gotta ryhme a lot !lol) but will be in the future fan fic, Mystery of EVENiNG. looks forward to it if you like! (boy, she sounds a lot like Rouge! lol, well, Rouge is one of the 3 fav Sonic chars I have, just like me having 3 NiGHTS chars as my favs, and the fact that I'm scorpio and that Rouge is scorpio. Really!)

I really like some of the maren you all have by the way.

I have several Fanmaren starting with Sunset my first Maren.

Sunset is a genie-like Maren who is stubborn as heck.
Her outfit and hair color are based upon her namesake the Sunset as well as part of her personalty, such as her hidden nature and mystery at random points during the night. She's one of the Maren not created directly by Wizeman. I'm still trying to figure out an idea for that though.
Has something to do with naturaly created nightmare energy, Ideya, and a living base. (Flower, pian, already created maren?)

Most of my maren tend to lean closer to the female side then genderless so that's why I tend to stick with her.

Suelita who's name is Spanish for White Lily is a good flower-like Maren with a some control over plants and unlike most of my Maren she cannot fly but can hover above the ground to an extent. One of the Maren not created by Wizeman, and thus upon meeting NiGHTS and Sunset, has no idea who in the world is Wizeman. Suelita also seems to have an affinty with the Purity ideya and it's dreamers. (Look up flower meanings.)

Fay is the third Maren created by random inisdents involving the nightmare energy and is not created by Wizeman. And I feel really sorry for the pian who got caught up in this mess. She's of course in return very child-like and the shortest Maren (I think.) in the Night diminision.
Fay does retain the pian wings and singing ablity but for some reason has the Nightmaren flight (Which she seems to perfer.) her adititude is nothing short of hyper and often causes trouble for NiGHTS, Sunset, Suelita and pretty much anyone else. Her name also means fairy folk.

Twitch is a cat-maren with an painful set of claws and teeth.
She has three different forms if you will, one being of a simingly harmless kitten with an odd bracelet on one leg, another of a Kiala type cat or big cat with a Clawz twist, and the last is of a humaren with messy brown hair with cat-like features. (I'll get up a picture of her when my scanner stops being a pain.) Twitch is heavly based on one of my cats by the same name. Unlike the pervous Maren she was created by Wizeman.

A slightly newer Maren by the name of Recolor is a shapeshifting Maren who can only turn into other Maren or Minions. But it has a slight drawback Wizeman wasn't expecting, it's colorblind and thus changes into a recolor of the Maren or minion when transformed. This Nightmaren tends to adopt personalty traits from the Maren it becomes often becoming an annoyence to characters like Reala (I think it turned into him once and well...
I'll let you all figure it out...) Recolor can also become a mix of Marens and gain a limited amount of a Maren's power but has more power than a minion. You can usually find it in a form of a mixed Maren... (I'll draw that form sometime tomorrow or tonight or I'll try drawing it on Paint.)

Her name is Crystal unlike the other nightmaren she is a white wolf
unlike the othes she has angel wigs
to help her fly she does not really work for wiseman she comes and goes
she likes tp play the flute at the full moon she has a scar on her left eye
and she has a long sword for battle and she has 2 forms humman and
spirit form that's how she spy's on dreamers.

I Also Have A Fan Maren! His/Her Name Is iCEHeart. He Acts Nice And Kind Then He Attacks! He Also Looks Like He Has Hair But That Is Part Of His Jester. He Can Turn Almost Anything Into Ice And Snow And Thats How He Tricks Dreamers. Because, I Mean, Who Doesnt Like Snow?
He Does Not Obey Wizeman. He Gets Ideya For His Own Use.......
