Easter Traditions

Postby Crystella on Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:21 am

During Easter my family hard boils eggs and then dyes them. After they cool in the frig, we do a game with the eggs called "egg butting." You first take an egg and callenge an opponent with their egg, you hold the egg so the bottom of the egg is up and the other person smacks thier top part of their egg onto the other egg. Then you reverse your sides of the egg. If both of your sides are cracked, you lose. If your egg is still intact, you win!

This is a German tradition, as well as many other cultures.

That sounds like fun!

When my younger brother was still young enough, we used to dye eggs the night before, then hide them early in the morning for him to find.
Now that he's older, I still dye eggs, but we just use them as table decorations.
I started a new tradition two years ago, where each table setting gets an egg as an appetizer.

I also place aracauna eggs (from aracauna chickens, they lay green eggs) out for decoration.
I sometimes blow them so that they can be hung.

Well, I'll be! They lay green eggs! Well, you know their is a legend that on the day Jesus rose from the dead, a apostle went home to check on his chickens and he found that one of his hens layed different colored eggs. So that's why we dye eggs in celebration of Easter.
