Plushie Tips

Well my traditional art skills are virtually nonexistant, so I'll talk about doll making.

First off, if you're planning to make dolls for sale, I advise that you do NOT make any characters that fall under copyright protection.
My policy is to never make a doll if a similar one already exists, that way I'm not taking sales away from anyone and I don't get in trouble XD

Okay but this is just making dolls for fun, so we don't need to worry about legalities yet.
First off, you need to learn how to make a sphere. I've found that that one shape can be adapted into just about anything else.

A sphere is really only a series of petal shapes (I suggest using felt to practice, it's cheap stuff)
So here are my instructions:

First judge how big of a ball you want. Remember that the finished product will be smaller than the starting pieces.

* Measure and Cut out about 5 petals
*Place two petals together and sew one side together from tip to tip
*Add a third petal to the edge of where the thread is closest, and repeat the process.
*Keep on repeating until you have all the pieces attached
*Knot the thread to keep it from slipping and turn the pieces right side out. (That way the seams are on the inside, along with any marks from when you were measuring the shapes)
*Now stitch up the last two edges, leaving a small gap to insert the stuffing through.
*Stuff the ball, being careful not to overstuff and break the stitches.
*Finish stitching the ball shut.
*Cut out two circles and stitch them over the top and bottom, so that the ball is completely enclosed.
Done!

I skip that last step when I make most dolls, since the hair/hat/whatever covers that spot anyway.

I'll add pictures a little later.

Take it slowly. Needle pricks hurt!
If you prick yourself a lot, you might need a thimble.

I've actually formed some nice calluses to protect my fingers - which tells you something about how much I sew.

Your baby can read :D

NiGHTS left Nightmare for good reasons. One is that they have a techno rave every 10 seconds, for 1 hour. Talk about annoying.

At this rate the next Sonic game will be: Sonic and the White Gladiaders
